Annual Chicken Barbecue
Council: 680 - MILLINOCKET
On Sunday, July 1st, St. Martin of Tours Council #680 held our 12th Annual Chicken BBQ. This is a fund raiser and provides a community event as part of the Chamber of Commerce’s 4th of July celebration.. Brother Tom Darling made flyers and posted them around Millinocket, East Millinocket and Medway. He also advertised in the local newspaper and on the nearby radio stations. We began the morning with setting up tents and putting tables and chairs under them on the lawn at the Hall. Next, a few Knights set up two very large homemade BBQ pits donated by Brother Knight Donut Busque. We also had a homemade propane burner with a huge kettle to cook 75 to 100 ears of corn at a time. We had Brother Knights and chefs Armand Colombo and Steve Manzo in charge of the barbecuing. Brother Armand Colombo had marinated 200 boneless chicken breasts in his special sauce, 10 pounds of hot dogs, and 50 hamburgers. Besides the meats, the menu consisted of potato salad, coleslaw, pasta salad, corn on the cob, a dinner roll, and soda – all for $8 per plate! This is one of our major fundraisers of the year to promote our scholarship and church service programs.
