BBQ Social at the Community of the Resurrection in Otisfield
Council: Choose Council
This has become an annual Social event hosted by our council. We invite council members and family as well as parishioners to travel to the beautiful residence of the Community of the Resurrection in Otisfield which is located at a classic Maine farmhouse in the foothills. It is a picturesque site and brings a sense of calm and quiet that mirrors the interior lives lived out by the Sisters.
The council supplies Burgers, Hot Dogs and Chicken for grilling and everyone brings their favorite dish or dessert to share. The resulting buffet is enjoyed by all and certainly nobody leaves hungry.
Held in May, it is an early celebration of the Summer season to come and it is made special by the company of the Sisters who always welcome us with open arms. The normally serenity of the residence gives way to loud conversation and a lot of laughter. Because everyone enjoys themselves so much, I am often approached by one of the Sisters in late Winter mentioning how much they are looking forward to the BBQ.
The Sisters offer themselves up as a contemplative and prayerful arm of our Church and this is a small way our council can recognize their contribution and great value of their service. It ends up being a fantastic opportunity to celebrate a wonderful friendship and shared purpose in living out the Gospel.
