Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities

01/21/2021

Council: 680 - MILLINOCKET

Project Description:

Members of Council 680 participated in the Maine State Council’s Campaign for People with Intellectual Disabilities for 2020. The purpose of this campaign is to provide donations to a local service organization dealing with clients with intellectual disabilities. Because of the COVID mandate of only 50 participants at Masses, we realized that in order to match or exceed last year’s efforts, we needed another strategy other than collecting donations at weekend Masses. So, we set up donation booths at participating local businesses with members present to direct donations and offer tootsie rolls in exchange. Masks were worn by all participants and social distancing was observed. To our surprise, we managed to exceed last year’s donations using this strategy. A total of 612 dollars was submitted to the Maine State Council. A check was later received which was given to the Katahdin Friends Corporation. A thank you card was received the following week with their gratitude for our annual efforts in supporting their organization.
