Diocese request to call Senate president
Council: 13861 - SANFORD
On May 9th this councils life director was contacted by the Diocese of Portland, office of public policy (Suzanne Lafreniere) who asked him to call the Maine State Senate President (Troy Jackson) to ask for his support to vote against LD 820 Taxpayer Finding for Abortion. He made the call the next day at 1205 pm. The call went like this: Good afternoon Senator, my name is Frank Pease and I am the Life Director for the Maine State K of C and we are very concerned about the upcoming vote on LD 820 on May 15 and we would like to know if we can count on your support? His response was, “I haven’t made up my mind yet” and I replied: “your a Catholic and a Knight of Columbus and you haven’t made up your mind yet?. He answered by saying “I know a lot of Catholics that don’t feel the same way you do about this” and the conversation ended abruptly.
