ESSAY CONTEST, CATHOLIC CITZENSHIP

01/04/2022

Council: 11257 - PORTLAND

Project Description:

Our Catholic Citizenship Essay contest was competed in December 2021 with the 8th Grade Students at St. Brigid School, Portland, Our Lady of Hope Parish. This is our 12th year for the contest. “In an essay of 500-750 words, the students participating were asked to describe everyday obstacles that you may have experienced or witnessed others experiencing while living a life of authentic faith. Explain how you have overcome these obstacles and how, by doing so, it has helped your faith continue to grow.” We had 10 students from the 8th Grade Classes at St. Brigid participate and the essay’s were well done. The essay’s were completed and turned in during the month of November and there were rated and graded by PGK Dewayn Mazagalli and his wife, Jean and reviewed by PGK Michael Pizzo. There were 2 winners chosen from the 10 students and each received a Winners Certificate and a check for $50. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the awards were announced at a school gathering and Principal Burke, a brother knight, gave out the awards assisted by the 8th grade teachers. The winners will now move on to the District Essay Contest and the State Contest early next year.
