Project Description:

The St. Thomas council, 13861, proudly names the Newport family as Family of the Month for October 2019.

Gerald Newport Sr. and his wife Shirley are the proud parents of seven children, daughter Connie Myers and her husband Steven, son Norman Chaloux and his wife Theresa, daughter Bernadette Quinn, daughter Victoria Travers and her husband Richard, son Paul Newport and his wife Sara, Gerald Newport Jr. and his wife Bobbie-Jo, and daughter Monica Newport.
Gerald Newport Sr. is a very active member of St. Thomas Knights Council of Columbus as Warden as well as our Assembly. He is also a member of the local Lions. He is the chair of the Children’s Christmas Party, raising over $2500 this year. He is very active in the local DAV-disabled Veterans and serves as President of the Sanford/Springvale Memorial Day Parade Committee. He devotes many hours to St. Therese Parish as an Usher at 4:00 pm mass and works tirelessly promoting and volunteering many hours for the Annual Christmas Fair.
Shirley Newport is extremely active in St. Therese parish volunteering as an instructor in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, she is a former Faith Formation teacher, volunteers to promote and organize the Knights of Columbus Children’s Party, washes altar linens weekly, brings Communion to shut ins, and organizes and promotes the Annual Christmas Fair. Shirley also is a part time volunteer housekeeper for the rectory.
Daughter Connie Myers is a former Altar Server and works on The Knights of Columbus Children’s Christmas Party and The Christmas Fair.
Son Norman Chaloux is a former Altar Server.
Daughter Bernadette is a former Altar Server and volunteers on both the Church Fair and The Knights of Columbus Children’s Christmas party. Her children, Alyssa and Connor assist at the Fair and Children’s Christmas Party.
Daughter Victoria Travers is a former Altar server and Faith Formation Teacher. She works with the Children’s Liturgy and volunteers at the Children’s Christmas party and Church Fair. Her husband Richard is a Knight of Columbus, Springvale Council, a former Faith formation Teacher and volunteers at the Church Fair and the Children’s Christmas Party.
Son Paul Newport and his wife Sara both volunteer at the Church Fair and the Children’s Christmas Party. Paul is also a former Altar Server. their children Paul Jr. and Christian volunteer at both the Church Fair and Children’s Christmas Party.
Son Gerald Newport Jr. and his wife Bobbie-Jo both volunteer at the Church Fair and Children’s Christmas party. Gerald Jr. is also a former Altar Server. Grand Child Gerald Newport III is active with the Children’s Liturgy, Church Fair, and the Children’s Christmas Party. Grand Child Darren Raymond volunteers at both the Church Fair and the Children’s Christmas Party.
Daughter Monica Newport is a Lector, Extraordinary Minister, former Faith Formation teacher, former Children’s Liturgy of the Word instructor and former President of the Lions Club. Monica volunteered countless hours as the Chair for the Annual Parish Harvest Fair. She volunteers at the Children’s Christmas Party. You should see her in her cute elf outfit!
Our hats are off to The Newport’s, models the “Christian family” and they are to be admired. To quote Mom Shirley: “we don’t do much.”
