Helping Hand - Giving New Life for our Observation Deck
Council: 9782 - WELLS
Since the dedication of our Handicap Accessible Walkway and Observation Deck in June of 1994, thousands of locals and tourist have come to sit and gaze and the beauty the Wells Harbor has to offer. Three years ago, our council started the process of raising funds to update and revitalize the deck to give it new life for the next generation of observers. Through monetary grants and generosity of local lumber yards, individuals and our town elected officials, we gave the observation deck new life by removing the 25 year old Pressure Treated lumber and replacing it with new composite material. Starting with the deck, then the new rails and finally the new composite seats topped off with the reinstallation of all the memorial and dedication bronze plates just below the seats. On the Saturday the 28th of September, on a beautiful sunny day; members of our council, our council Chaplain, Town Manager, town officials and many interested and excited supporters and donors as our Chaplain offered an opening prayer
followed by statements by the town manager and council members. Interesting point that was brought up was the fact that the town manager who dedicated the walkway that day was the same town manager who dedicated it 25 years ago.
