K of C 1423 Annual Golf Tournament Fund-raiser

02/29/2020

Council: 1423 - No. WHITEFIELD

Project Description:

When Father McGivney founded the Order, it was made clear that our FIRST Principle was CHARITY. This consists of three components: Time, Talent, and Treasure. This event incorporates all three: 1. a significant investment of time donated to make it a success; 2. the skills of the Brother Knights, and their families, were utilized in various aspects of the event (e.g.: culinary skills, visual acuity, physicla dexterity and strength); and, 3. capital investment for food and supplies (it takes money to make money).
This event is the primary means for Gov. Kavanagh Council to add to its financial base, which is the means by which we are able to donate to those in need throughout the year. Granted, the Council provides four Community Dinners throughout the year, but the proceeds of those dinners is specifically earmarked to recipients voted upon by the Council’s Brothers.
This event involved approximately 60 golfers, who participated as 4-player teams. Their entry fees, plus various raffles at the end, generated approximately $4,000 for the Council. As was stated earlier, this allows the Council to provide for necessary administrative expenses, as well as providing for the support of the citizens-in-need of the communities served by the St. Denis worship site; the Religious Communities and Clergy; the Parish and Diocesan Schools; Pro-Life support; and emergency supplies and monies of citizens and Brothers who are faced with financial crises, throughout the year.
In addition to generating funds, this event provides the opportunity for Brothers and their families to gather, work, and achieve the vision of our Founder, the Venerable Servant of God Father Michael J. McGivney.
