Supporting 94th Annual Saint Peter's Bazaar. 15791
Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH
One of our council brothers and a family member participated in the 94th Annual Saint Peter’s Bazaar in Portland on August 9 threw 11, 2019. It had been many years since we attended this event. In fact myself and a family member were still in junior high when we started to make this an annual event in the summer. The bazaar is a celebration of the parish’s Italian heritage and a commemoration of two feasts of the Catholic Church, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (August 15) and the Feast Day of Saint Rocco (August 16).With slices of pizza or meatball sandwiches in hand, thousands filled the street outside St. Peter Church in Portland during the 94th annual St. Peter’s Italian Bazaar. At the conclusion of the Mass, the statues of the Blessed Mother and Saint Rocco were carried in procession outside the church and through the bazaar, after which the bishop offered a blessing. The St. Peter’s Italian Bazaar is nearly as old as the parish itself, dating back to 1925, just 14 years after the parish was founded to serve a growing number of Italian immigrants. In 2019, the bazaar set a record for profits, with all proceeds benefiting the church’s building fund. We look forward to 2020 when we once again can enjoy a great day of summer fun in August, while support Saint Peter’s Church.
