TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE

12/21/2021

Council: 13861 - SANFORD

Project Description:

ST. THOMAAS COUNCIL HELD IT’S ANNUAL TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE IN SANFORD MAINE ON SEPTEMBER 17-18 AT THE SHAW’S SUPERMARKET. TEAMS OF TWO MEN WERE SET UP IN TWO HOUR INTERVALS ON FRIDAY AND SATURDAY. IN OUR CITY, WE HAVE CAMP WABAN WHICH IS A FACILITY FOR MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY CHALLENGEDPEOPLE. ALL MONEY THAT WE RECEIVE FROM THE DRIVE IS DONATED TO CAMP WABAN,

ON THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER 9 AND 10 WE WERE GIVEN PERMISSION BY OUR PASTOR, FATHER BILL, TO DO THE TOOTSIE ROLL DRIVE AFTER ALL THE MASSES. THIS REQUIRED HAVING 5 PEOPLE TO COVER ALL THE DOORS. THE DRIVE WAS SOMEWHAT LIMITED BECAUSE OF COVID, BUT WE DID THE BEST WE COULD. A LITTLE OVER $2,000 WAS RAISED BY OUR COUNCIL. THIS ACTIVITY ALWAYS GIVE OUR COUNCIL MUCH VISIBILITY, AND THE MANY MEMBERS FROM OUR COUNCIL REALLY ENJOY DOING IT.

THE PROJECT INVOLVED GETTING PERMISSIONS TO HOLD THE DRIVE, SETTING UP EACH SHIFT TO ENSURE THE MEMBERS HAD ENOUGH TOOTSIE ROLLS, APRONS, CONTAINERS, ETC. AS WELL AS TIME COUNTING THE MONEY AND GETTING MONEY ORDERS.
