Seminarian Joseph Beale, and Deacon Erin Donlon were also informed that this year Council 15791 will be sending each of them a check for $500.00 to help with their studies. Baby Bottle Boomerang event for Charlane Chapman House
Council: 5515 - NORWAY
Project Description:
The state family couple, Charlie & Courtney Bougie, had mentioned that they heard there was a new 501(c)(3) corporation being developed somewhere in Hebron in 2023. An online search was conducted and found that a corporation in Brunswick, Life House Maine, had purchased the old Greenwood Mountain Inn in Hebron and was modifying it as a safe home that would take in pregnant mothers in difficult situations and nurture & care for the baby in their womb for the first year of life. I met Paul Balsamo in the fall of 2023 and struck up a relationship with him after discussing the monumental task he was undertaking. I went back to my council and brought the issue before them, and they were all in agreement that we would work the next year to help the new venture get up and running. Our council scheduled a baby bottle boomerang drive from July 12 to August 11, 2024, where we made baby bottles available to the parishioners of the three churches in our parish. Through the generous contributions of the parishioners of St. Teresa of Calcutta parish $ 2,000.00 was raised during this event. This was a testament to the generosity of the parishioners of our parish in supporting our efforts not only this year but in years past as well. A sincere “THANK YOU” is extended from our council. A presentation of the receipts of our 2024 drive will be made in mid to late September at the Charlane Chapman House.
All Saints Catholic School Back to School BBQ
Council: 114 - BANGOR
Project Description:
Brother Blake Langley started preparing for the BBQ around noon. With clear skies, he started setting up the Grill and Dunk Station that would be used by the school and parish faculty. Around 3pm Brother Jeff Schaller, Kevin Cronin, EJ Hikel and Jim Fazzino arrived to set up the 20 tables, canopies and chairs. Over the next hour, the brothers, move the tables from the church to the school parking lot. Around 4pm Brother John Newcomb arrived who would be the main grill master. That’s when the clouds started to move in. We consulted Principal Johanna Lake and she heard rain was moving in. As families started to arrive, the brothers shifted to move and setup tables in the all purpose room to be able to shift to indoor meal. Families provided the food and paper products and all were smiles as the rain hit around 5pm and families started to arrive. The set up in the all purpose room went well but it was crowded. The buffet line was full of food. We also kept our eyes on the trash cans as they filled up. As soon the meal was over, the kids found the friends they had missed over the summer and they went outside to enjoy the fresh air after the heavy rain come during the meal but later cleared off. We had to pick up two sets of tables because of the rain, the ones in the all purpose room and the ones outdoors from St. Mary’s church. We had lots of help from parents, and faculty to help the Knights wrap up a great back to school BBQ.
Annual Parish Family Outing at Saint Gregory the Great Property.
Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH
Project Description:
One Hundred and fifteen attendees, Knights, and their family members participated in the 2024 Annual Parish Family Outing at Saint Gregory the Great Property on Saturday August 24, 2024. For 11 years now the Knights of Columbus and their family members from the Parish of the Holy Eucharist have helped the Parish office team in the set-up, clean-up, manning the grill, and preparing the swimming area so it would be safe for the children and their parents and friends. This year there was a special event added. It was a Dunk the Pastor booth for a donation. There was never a dull moment at this event. It wasn’t very often that Fr. Cartwright was dry. All who participated in this event enjoyed themselves very much, along with Fr. Cartwright. The Parish sponsored scout troop also were present with a display which all enjoyed. They had made and purchased items to build small sail boats and answered many questions about their display. The cooking this year was done by the knights of our council. Deacon Dennis took time early Saturday morning to rake out all the debris from the kids swimming area. Many kids were in attendance, and enjoyed the water. One Council Warden brought a guest with him who was visiting for a couple of weeks. His visitor was from West Africa. He enjoyed himself very much. One of the ladies from the Parish Office was in charge of the games of Soccer, Bad Mitten, and Corn Hole. Right from set-up to break down all had a Great Time. It was nice to see the Team work which went on between the Knights of Columbus, and all who attended. It was also so nice to have a rain free event this year, Thanks Be To GOD. We look forward to conducting 2025’s Annual Parish Outing at Saint Gregory The Great property.
Knights of Columbus Council 1873: Serving Community Spirit at the Heart of Houlton’s 4th of July Parade
Council: 1873 - HOULTON
Project Description:
On the 4th of July, the Knights of Columbus Council 1873 proudly took part in Houlton’s Independence Day celebrations, setting up a festive cookout right in the heart of the action—the church parking lot, which served as the staging area for the town’s parade. As floats were decorated our council was busy grilling hot dogs and burgers, ensuring that both parade participants and early spectators had a hearty meal to start their day.
The parking lot was a flurry of activity as parade participants made final preparations. Amidst this vibrant scene, the aroma of our freshly grilled food drew a steady crowd to our stand. Decorated in patriotic colors, our setup became a gathering spot where community members could enjoy a classic 4th of July meal, share in the excitement, and connect with one another.
For Council 1873, this cookout was more than just a way to provide food—it was an expression of our commitment to the Houlton community. By serving those who make the parade possible and those who come to enjoy it, we aimed to contribute to the sense of unity and celebration that defines this holiday. The funds raised from the cookout will help us continue our charitable efforts and support the many initiatives we undertake throughout the year.
As the parade began to move out from the parking lot, Council 1873 reflected on a successful morning. We had not only provided a service to our community but had also strengthened the bonds that tie us all together, making this 4th of July a memorable one for everyone involved.
Midnight Madness
Council: 1873 - HOULTON
Project Description:
The Midnight Madness event in Houlton, Maine, was a lively and spirited evening that brought the community together in celebration. At the heart of the festivities, the Knights of Columbus from Council 1873 played a pivotal role, setting up their food stand and offering a delectable selection of Sausage Dogs, Hot Dogs, and Lobster Rolls to hungry attendees. The aroma of grilled meats and freshly prepared lobster rolls filled the air, drawing people in from all corners of the event.
As the night unfolded, the Knights served a steady stream of visitors, each one greeted with warm smiles and friendly conversation. This wasn’t just about providing food; it was an opportunity for the Knights to connect with the community on a deeper level. The laughter and camaraderie shared over a simple meal underscored the sense of togetherness that Midnight Madness is known for.
But the event had a purpose beyond the joy of the moment. The funds raised from the sales of these delicious offerings were earmarked to support the many activities and charitable events that the Knights of Columbus Council 1873 sponsor throughout the year. From community outreach programs to faith-based initiatives, the money would ensure that the Knights could continue their good work in Houlton and beyond.
Moreover, the Knights saw this as more than just a fundraiser. Their participation in Midnight Madness was a reflection of their commitment to the community—a way to show their faith in action and their unwavering support for the town they call home. As the evening drew to a close, it was clear that the Council had not only nourished the bodies of those in attendance but had also fed the spirit of community that makes Houlton such a special place.
