Annual Chicken BBQ

Annual Chicken BBQ

Council: 13181 - SABATTUS

Project Description:

The annual Chicken BBQ that our council hosts each year is dependent upon the racks to hold the chicken while they are being cooked. The racks we have been using for years were starting wear out and needed to be replaced. Brother Knights Roger Plante and Dan Bouffard designed new racks to be used with the existing charcoal BBQ pit. Materials were sourced by Brother Knight Roland St. Amand. The racks were fabricated by Roger Plante and his son Matthew. These racks will be used for many years to come for our annual Chicken BBQ’s and they will be made available to other Councils as needed.

Each July Council #13181 hosts a summer Chicken BBQ on the last Sunday of the month. This event is open to anyone and it attracts a great crowd each summer. The tradition goes back many years and we have our own barbecue pit, barbecue sauce recipe, and the knowledge and experience to provide over 100 delicious meals. It is also a great community building event and social occasion allowing us to share what being a Knight is all about while having fun and sharing great food together.

This year, as in past years, we prepared barbecued chicken, with potato salad, mashed potatoes, cole slaw, bread, soft drinks and dessert for well over 100 guests. Proceeds went toward our church and scholarship funds. Brother Knights that participated in the event include Robert Michaud, Dan Bouffard, James Ingalls, James Daigle, Robert Desbiens, Don Champagne, Robert Ayotte, Rodney Woodrum and their spouses.
