Annual Friendship House Visit. 2018 15791
Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH
Project Description:
Myself and two volunteers from our local Food Pantry brought to the “Friendship House” in South Portland many items of food once again this year. On the above date we gathered and loaded all our donated items in two vehicles. Items donated this year included a number of main dishes, there were macaroni/cheese, meatloaf, potatoes, carrots, and zucchini casseroles and farmers’ market veggies and cider. We also delivered a number of homemade desserts. The Friendship House is an organization committed to helping men seeking to overcome their addictions, mainly by providing guidance, encouragement, and a family atmosphere. They accomplish this by staffing the house with loving, compassionate, individuals who understand addiction and live with the guests. The Friendship House is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, committed to providing the best home possible. Their Mission Statement is “To express the love of God through Christ to the poor and disadvantaged, by providing a safe home where hope and healing are extended to those who are broken spiritually, emotionally or physically.” After my first visit in 2015 and helping with the food products, I once again this November made some time to spend as a volunteer for the day on the above date. The staff were very please, and stated that their doors are always open to help those in need. We were also invited to stay for a meal and break bread with some of the residents. Helping those in need is Gods work, and Fr. Michael J. McGivney would be pleased to see the end results.
