Annual Yard Sale
Annual Yard Sale
Council: 680 - MILLINOCKET
Project Description:
This annual event is a major fund raiser for our Council and provides a traditional summer activity that is enjoyed by the local citizens and the frequent visitors to our community. It begins several months before as we advertise in the local newspaper and our Church bulletin for donations to our yard sale. Members of the Council volunteer many hours taking phone calls, arranging pickup and delivering these donated item to the Association Hall. Over these months, the Council manages to fill a shed donated by the Association for our use. The day of the event, we began the morning with setting up tables on the lawn at the Hall. It took many Knights starting at 6:30 a.m. to take all the yard sale items out of the shed and other storage sites and display them on the front lawn or on the tables. The sale ran from 8 a.m. to 2:00 p.m when many items were sold. Knights helped deliver items to the buyers’ car, restocked and/or redistributed items on the tables, and located items for buyers in search of specific purchases. In addition, several members cooked and served hot dogs and hamburgers through the lunch time hours. At the end of the sale, members separated items for donation to the St. Martin Thrift Store and those items that were considered unsellable. Several trips were made to the local transfer site to discard these items. This fund raiser helps the Council fund its various charitable events throughout the fraternal year.
