Assistance in Moving Priest

Assistance in Moving Priest

06/27/2018

Council: 334 - AUGUSTA

Project Description:

When a Parish loses a Priest, other than through retirement or Eternal Reward, another Parish gains. This has become a fact of life in the Diocese of Portland. This is the case with St Anne Parish, Gorham. They have lost father Michael J. Seavey as their Parochial Vicar. Their loss is a gain for St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Augusta.

As we approach the “traditional” transfer date of July 1st, the Priest has a lot of “stuff” to move. Father Seavey, with the assistance of members of St. Anne’s Council 10221, Gorham, packed his “stuff” on Tuesday, June 26th, for the move to Augusta. As Fr. Seavey led the ‘convoy’ of three vehicles north, three members of the Council accompanied him.

Upon arriving in Augusta, Fr. Seavey was met by Fr. John Skehan, the newly-arrived Pastor of St. Michael Parish, along with parochial Vicar Fr. Sami Santhiyagu, State Advocate Michael Giroux, DD8, GK-334, and the Sexton of the Parish. Together, Fr. Seavey’s property and personal effects were placed in the Rectory. Upon the departure of the Gorham Brother Knights, the remainder of Fr. Seavey’s office supplies, and house plants, were transferred to his new office at the Pastoral Center, in North Augusta.

Council 334 greatly appreciates the help given Fr. Seavey by the Brother Knights of Council 10221 for their assistance in helping make this a smooth transition for Fr. Seavey.

The transfer of Fr. Seavey marks his return to the Augusta area. He was previously the Pastor of St. Andrew Church, from 1998-2003. This was prior to the incorporation of all area Churches into St. Michael Parish.
