BBQ Dinner in support of Totus Tuus program held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Windham
Council: 10020 - No. WINDHAM
Project Description:
We had the privilege of hosting the Totus Tuus program at OLPH again this summer, the fifth summer running. This is a week long summer program for youth from Kindergarten through High School. This event attracted approximately 65 youth participants, involving many adults assisting the 4 college students who conducted the program.
In support of this program, our Knights Council put on a BBQ dinner Wednesday evening, serving burgers, hot dogs, chicken, fries and beverages. Additionally some of our wives set up an Apple Crisp and Ice Cream station for desert. Including parents, Totus Tuus staff and parishioners, we served over 100 meals. Additionally, council members assisted in many other activities throughout the week adding a significant number of resource hours in support of the program.
Our council understands the importance of the church community coming together in support of youth programs and our role in supporting that community. It also shows the vitality of our parish family and demonstrates to the Totus Tuus staff our appreciation for their efforts to engage our young parish members actively in their faith. We look forward to continuing this partnership into the future.
To close out the program, we set up a water gun/water balloon ‘fight’ in the parking lot. Given the high temperatures experienced during the week, everyone seemed happy getting the chance to cool off a little.
For those unfamiliar with the program, from the Totus Tuus website (https://portlanddiocese.org/totus-tuus):
“Totus Tuus is a Catholic youth program for students from 1st through 12th grade dedicated to teaching the Gospel and deepening love for the Church through catechesis, prayer, Christian witness, and the sacraments”
