Benefit Supper for a Brother Knight with Cancer

02/22/2023

Council: 320 - JAY

Project Description:

Brother Phil Newman’s battle with cancer has been ongoing for over two years. In the recent months Phil’s struggle has become more severe but he is still working his job from home and has continued to attend weekly Mass even while living through the discomfort of his disease. Phil and his wife Amy have a strong faith which helps them through the day to day battle with this cancer. Brother Phil is also a Past Grand Knight of Council 320. A benefit supper was held on October 29th, 2022 for Brother Phil. His family, many parishioners, members of the Men’s group, the Daughters of Isabella and the Knights of Columbus form St Rose Parish all came together to put on this supper. His family put together the raffle prizes and silent auction items and made arrangements to use the local Amvets hall. The meal was a collaboration of many helping hands. Parishioners made rolls and cole slaw. The Daughters provided the deserts and the Knights and Men’s group cooked the spaghetti supper. The Knights covered the cost of the spaghetti and sauce which was made by our Financial Secretary Don from Castonguay Meats. Over 20 lbs. of spaghetti were cooked and over 200 meals were served. With the supper, the raffle prizes, silent auction and other activities over $10,000 was raised through this event. Real support was shown for this couple and family, who are active in our parish community, by a complete cross section of our parish family.
