Bring the ACTS Retreat to the Parish of the Holy Eucharist 15791

03/25/2018

Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH

Project Description:

One of our Council Brothers and past ACTS participants worked for almost two months on the fund raising team within the Worship Sites and Parish Community to establish a core Team to bring the ACTS retreat to our Parish. With the funds raised the money will be used to acquire the materials required to host the ACTS Retreat. As of the writing of this report Three fund-raising events have been complete: the Eric Genuis Benefit Concert
for the POTHE Women’s ACTS Retreat. We raised $1,500.00 from the concert. Second the Knights of Columbus Council 15791 donated $200.00, and we had an anonymous donation of $105.00 to the program by one of the Holy Marty’s Church members for a total of $1,805.00. During February and March the team has met formally every month for 2 hrs., and informally after daily Mass for a few minutes or on specific dates for fund-rising for two hours. The ACTS Retreat programs are parish-based for all parish members. These events offer parishioner’s an opportunity to experience the love of Jesus Christ. This in turn fosters a desire for intentional discipleship. ACTS Retreats are given by parishioners for parishioners, and in this way, serve to build Christian community within our parish community. ACTS is inspired by the Acts of the Apostles 2:42-47: “They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles and to communal life, to the breaking of the bread and to prayers. Awe came upon everyone, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Everyday they devoted themselves to meeting together in the temple area and to breaking bread in their homes. They ate their meals in exultation and sincerity of heart, praising God and enjoying favor with all people. And every day the Lord added to their number those who were being saved.”
The ACTS Retreat experience is rooted in the Paschal Mystery in that retreatants are invited to reflect on the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. This retreat begins on the evening of May 10 and end on Sunday morning May 13 following the 10:30 AM Mass and Reception at Holy Martyrs Church. The purpose of this weekend is to invite retreatants into a new or deeper relationship with the Lord and with other faithful women and men through Adoration and daily prayer; Community, awareness, of one’s identity as a member of the Body of Christ; Theology, encouraging more study of our faith and God’s Word; and promoting the virtue of Service to our Lord and one another. The ACTS retreat is a unique experience that has change the lives of hundreds of Catholics and even non-Catholics that have participated in the retreat. As a result, ACTS is acknowledged by bishops and priests worldwide as part of the Church’s New Evangelization challenge to “go and make disciples of all nations.” As of October 2017, ACTS Missions is represented worldwide to include, 27 states in the US, representing 74 dioceses, 6 countries including the US, Mexico, Panama, Honduras, South Africa, and Canada, representing 28 international dioceses, 569 parishes worldwide. This has been a Blessed Program to become involved in, and we look forward as Christians and Parishioners of our Parish to the Retreat in May.
