Project Description:

The Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council sponsored a Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest for the St. Thomas School students. The essay contest was open to sixth thru eighth graders. Martin M. McKeon, Director of Professional Development & Mentoring, at St. Thomas School coordinated the essay contest.

In an essay of 500 to 750 words, each student was to explain how young Catholics can
evangelize our faith to families and friends who have turned away from religion and encourage them to return to the Church and embrace the sacraments.
19 sixth, seventh and eighth graders submitted essays.
The top two winners in the annual Knights of Columbus Essay Contest were:
• First Place: Adrianna Gauthier, Grade 8
• Second Place: Sookie Merrill, Grade 6
The first place winner received a $100 Walmart gift card and the second place winner received a $50 Walmart gift card. Each participant received a certificate.
