Centennial Mass and Reception
Centennial Mass and Reception
Council: 2219 - WESTBROOK
Project Description:
Our council was founded in 1921, so 2021 marks our centennial year. Although several events were planned and a centennial booklet was published, Covid-19 prevented most of the activities. We were, however, able to pull off a centennial mass and reception. An announcement was placed in the church bulletin to encourage attendance at the reception and to inform the parishioners as to what was going on. The State Deputy and his staff were invited … and they showed up en masse with their wives. Also participating was the District Deputy and his wife. Brother Knights sat with families in a reserved section to help show our strength. State Secretary Jon Harvey delivered a framed letter from the Supreme Knight congratulating the council on past accomplishments and wishes for continued success.
About 50 people convened in the parish hall, which had been decorated in advance. A kiosk presentation highlighting many areas of involvement was displayed on the new UHD 75-inch television, which the Knights had recently purchased and installed. Two sheet cakes (one vanilla; one chocolate) decorated with the emblem of the order, were quickly devoured by those in attendance. A letter from Supreme authorizing use of the emblem had been obtained in advance from Joseph Brownsberger, Brand Management Specialist of the Legal Department.
Following parting words from State Deputy John Deetjen, pictures were taken for publicity and remembrance purposes (photo of cake, centerpiece decoration, and dignitaries with the award are attached).
