Project Description:

One of our parish activities to build the Domestic Church is to encourage parishioners to get together to socialize, get to know each other, and involve all members of the family. In that vein, our parish puts on a parish Coffee/Donuts/And… Social two Sundays a month on Sundays when Faith Formation is not being held in the parish hall. Coffee, donuts, tea, juices, and a variety of cut up fruit are prepared and served buffet style after each of the two Sunday masses.

Two spouses of Brother Knights have taken the lead for the events, and are supported by four Brother Knights and about six other parishioners. Saturdays before the event, the two lead Knight families purchase the fruit. Plates, napkins, cups, coffee, and juices are also purchased as needed. Often, Knights need to set up the hall for the events on Saturday – taking down the movable walls, setting up tables and chairs, and setting out table cloths and decorations. On the morning of the events, one of the leads picks up the donuts at 7:30, and the the crew arrives ready to serve and clean up. One Brother Knight will often stand in the Narthex with a sign at the end of Mass directing parishioners to the hall and welcoming all. Depending on the weather, any where from 40 to 70 parishioners have attended the event, sometimes staying to socialize for over an hour. Especially attracted to the events are young families – what kid doesn’t like donuts? As do most of the adults! Over time, attendance has grown as families have become familiar with the events.
