Project Description:

Every Knights of Columbus Council is charged with the mandate to support Charity, in both action and funding. To provide the needed funds, a Council must conduct fund-raising events. These run the gamut of events. Governor Kavanagh Council 1423 has, for years, sponsored a Golf Tournament, named in honor of a former Brother Knight. The planning for the yearly event, essentiallly, starts the day after the previous year’s tournament. The majority of planning, and hands-on work, begins in earnest in June, and continues through the week after the event.
On the day of the event, the bulk of the workers arrive at St. Denis Church, and load and transport tables, chairs, the grill, coolers, tents, and other various and sundry items to Sheepscot Links, five miles away. At the links, the tables, chairs, and tents must be set, prior to the arrival of the players, and teams. The signage must be placed at each tee along the course. The grill must be fired, and the food must be prepared in advance. The Council provides free food for the duration of the Tournament.
At the end of the tournament, prizes are awarded, based on pre-established criteria; and, vendor-donated “swag” is given to the participants.
Following the prizes, and thanks to the participants, the volunteers break down the course, return it to its original condition, and bring everything back to St. Denis.
A very arduous, tiring, but well-worthwhile effort, since this event provides the base for the majority of funds from which the Council can meet its obligation to provide “Charity”.
