Delivering Easter Meals to the Homebound

Council: 13861 - SANFORD

Project Description:

In the Gospel of Matthew 25: 31-46 we read, “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? …The King will reply, Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

In keeping with this directive from Jesus, Knights and their wives from St. Thomas Council 1381 in St. Therese of Lisieux parish identified 35 people who regularly receive Holy Communion from Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist to the Homebound. The Knights designed a menu, purchased the items, and assembled an Easter meal consisting of frozen pre-cooked sliced ham, scalloped potatoes, yams, green beans, mandarin oranges and a chocolate cross. These meals could be prepared whenever the recipients wanted. They were delivered with church bulletins and Palms on the afternoon of Palm Sunday in anticipation of Holy Week.

The reception was wonderful. People were thrilled that the parish would think of them like this especially during Holy Week. It was a wonderful example of Knights in Action, answering Christ’s call to feed His people.

Vivat Jesus!
