Project Description:

Our Catholic Citizenship Essay was completed with the 8th Grade Students at St. Brigid School, Portland. This is our 11th year for the contest. The participants were to do an essay in 500-750 words, and discuss how trusting in God during a difficult time helped them or someone they knew find the strength and hope to endure it. They had to consider especially those times when it was a challenge to understand why something was happening and consider sharing any lessons about faith and hope or someone you know may have learned from the experience. We had 26 students from the 8th Grade classes at St. Brigid participate and the essay’s were all very well done. The Essay’s were completed and turned into us on November 5th and we had 3 PGK’s and their wives do the rating. From the 26 there were 3 winners chosen and each received a $50 check and winners Certificate. All the 26 participants were given Participant Certificates. Due to the Covid19 restrictions, the awards were announced at a school gathering and Principal William Burke, a brother knight, gave out the awards assisted by the 8th grade class teachers. The winners will now move on to the District Essay Contest. We have hopes that we will have a winner make it to the National Essay Contest at Supreme early next year.
