Food drive during lent "40 cans for 40 days".

Council: 11257 - PORTLAND

Project Description:

Council 11257, Portland, organized a food drive for the benefit of St. Vincent DePaul’s Soup Kitchen in Portland. Members of council 101 assisted with pick-ups and drop-offs at St. Vincents during the drive. The drive was held during the 40 days of Lent and food was collected in the churches of St. Pius and St. Joseph’s at Our Lady of Hope Parish. Parishioners and friends were asked to contribute non-perishable foods such as can goods, dry goods, Jars and toiletries. The bins were collected each week and delivered to St. Vincent’s by volunteer Knights from the two churches. We were not able to keep exact count of the food donated but it was well over 500 lbs. of can goods and dry goods. This drive will qualify as the 4 service reports for Family Life category for the columbian award. This is our third year of doing the drive and we plan to continue in the coming years.
