Project Description:

Over the course of the year, from 4/1/2020 to 2/12/2021, Brother Knights and their spouses have donated 960 pounds of food to the food closet, bringing their donation to our council meetings. An additional 400 pounds of garden grown produce was also donated. Many Brother Knights and their spouses also worked in support of the food closet which is open Thursdays each week. The food closet directors estimate they have served approximately 60,000 pounds of food during this period.
There is much work behind the scenes, from receiving weekly deliveries from the Good Shepard Food Bank to rotating stock to ensure freshness, the many reports required by the state, the constant monitoring freezer temperatures, and applications for grants. Although there are two other food pantries in the area, many families depend on our food closet as it is centrally located and in walking distance.
This food closet serves 30-40 families on a weekly basis.
