Helping a Community Member in Need
Helping a Community Member in Need
Council: 114 - BANGOR
Project Description:
A total of nine members from our K of C council participated in a cleanup effort on two separate days for a community member that reached out to the St. Paul the Apostle Parish office for help.
Briefly, a community member (previous parishioner at St. John’s Church, Bangor, ME) was/is going through a challenging time in their life, and has very limited resources. This individual is currently employed at Wal-Mart in Bangor. Their house/yard has fallen into disrepair, and the outside of the house was so cluttered with junk/debris that maintenance people were unable to access the utilities (oil spout, etc.) for service/repair/etc..
The mother of this individual was the one who contacted the parish office to help her adult child with this situation. One of the knights worked with the mother and met the individual, visiting the home and assessing the situation. The visit to the home confirmed the dire situation of the yard condition, and the reality that maintenance people would not be able to safely enter yard to provide needed services for the house in its current condition.
The Knights organized two work parties (two hours each on two separate days). They worked to pull junk/debris out, and removed approximately 8 utility trailers full. They took all of the junk/debris to the Hampden transfer center (dump).
The mother of the individual was contacted after the work had been completed, and was very grateful for the help/intervention from the Knights.
