Helping Hands for our Seniors Citizens
Helping Hands for our Seniors Citizens
Council: 9782 - WELLS
Project Description:
It is always a heartbreaking situation when a loved family member for various health reasons must leave the closeness and loving care of their spouse or a home they lived in for many years and now find themselves dependent on healthcare individuals at either an assisted living or nursing home facilities. This has recently happened to two of our member of our council, for one member it was his wife and the other his mother-in-law. For the one member whose wife is now at St. Andre’s Health Care Facility in Biddeford he has made it his mission to offer his services to join a committee to help raise funds for a new Health Care Memory Garden at the Facility. Once built, will offer residents greater opportunity to enjoy a safe and secure environment where they can enjoy physical exercise, therapies, elevated garden beds, attend functions in a large gazebo, all in a secure gated area which will help stimulate their minds and bodies. The other member whos mother-in-law is also a resident joined together with the other travelling to Knights of Columbus councils from Districts 11 through 16 sharing their story and picture of the proposed memory garden and the the importance of such a facility. The members have asked and was decided by the committee that the gazebo would have a plaque thanking all the Knights of Columbus councils who helped with the financial cost of the Gazebo. Thus far they have travelled to 10 councils with many more to go. They are determinded to continue their “Helping Hands” giving testiment that our Knights of Columbus Family truely cares for our senior citizens. As of the beginning of February they have received monies and pledges in excess of $9600.00 with more monies to come.
