Lenten Fish Dinners
Lenten Fish Dinners
Council: 10221 - GORHAM
Project Description:
St. Anne’s Council of the Knights of Columbus has been doing Lenten Fish Dinners for the past 13+ years. Initially, this was started as a fundraiser, but it has turned into much more. It has also been a community event, with as many as 320 customers coming to the dinner, they stay and visit with family and friends long after they have completed their dinners. It has also been a fraternal event, with the many brothers who participate taking pride in what we are doing and enjoying working together. These dinners have historically spanned the six Fridays of Lent, but with covid, we have had to adjust. The dinners have been held monthly, with four of the six already being held. They have also been done as a takeaway dinner. Meals are sold in advance vis sales after mass, through phone calls, and through our web page. The customers then drive into the church parking lot, verified of their purchase and proceed to the delivery door. Stickers are placed on their windshield to indicate the number of meals purchased. In the dining room the meals are packaged for takeout and delivered to the customer’s car. The dinner includes baked haddock, mashed potatoes, peas, Cole slaw, a dinner roll, and fresh baked cookies. In February over 500 cookies were baked! for this season we are averaging a little over 180 melas a month.
Along with our regular customers, we also make we make meals for Knight’s in need and for our priests and sister. Over the past two months, we have also delivered a total of 31 free dinners to the Gorham First responders in recognition of the important work they do for our community.
We still have two more months of dinners to do.
