Council: 11257 - PORTLAND

Project Description:

Council 11257, Portland, organizeds a food drive for the benefit of St. Vincent DePaul’s Soup Kitchen in Portland. Members of Council 101 assisted with pick-ups at the church and drop offs at St. Vincent’s during the drive. The drive was held during Lent and food was collected in the churches of St. Pius and St. Joseph’s at Our Lady of Hope Parish, Portland. Parishioners and friends were asked to contribute non-perishable foods such as can goods, dry goods, jars and toiletries. The bins were collected weekly and delivered to St. Vincent’s by volunteer Knights from the two churches. We were unable to keep accurate count of all the food donated but estimated it well over 700lbs of can goods and dry goods. This drive qualifies for the 4 service requirements for Family Life category for the Columbian award. This is our 4th year of doing the drive and we plan to continue in the coming years. The drive was organized by PGK James Pizzo.
