Memorial Day Flag Placement in Cemetery
Memorial Day Flag Placement in Cemetery
Council: 114 - BANGOR
Project Description:
For the past four years, the Direct of our Cemetery Gene Gagnon asked the Knights to organize efforts to place American Flags on the Veteran’s graves. The Knights publicized the event in the Church Bulletin, and they had the Parish Boy Scouts, and many Parishioners to help.
On May 26, 2018 over 36 Knights, their families, Scouts and Parishioners attended to help place flags on the graves sights prior to Memorial Day. Brother Mike Caruso from Pine Cone Council planned the event including recruiting knights and their families, the Scouts and Parishioners to assist. Brother Jim Larson brought refreshments from Dunkin Donuts so all had coffee and/or donuts. The event started at 9:30 with an introduction to how to find the veteran’s footstones and how to place the flags for coordination and consistency. The cemetery is quite large and although it is located on Ohio Street, it is actually split between the I-395 highway. The event took around 2.5 hours to place several hundred flags. It was a great event and has turned into a great tradition of our youth coming together with everyone to honor on Veterans and to help build up our Church.
