Project Description:

Four council members, families of children with special needs and abilities, and parishioners participated in second annual OPEN HEARTS OPEN DOORS GATHERING at Holy Martyr’s Church on Sunday February 2, 2020. A simple meal was provided during our meet and greet at 12:30, along with various activity stations for family members to engage in. There was space and time where individuals were welcome to move about in a way that was intrinsic to their needs. At 1:15, we gathered in the church for mass, followed by the blessing of the throats. Our parish Open Hearts Open Doors Team, who have personal and/or professional experience with children’s different abilities and needs, were on hand to help our gathering go smoothly for all the children and family members. Special foods were set-up for those children and adults with allergies, dietary concerns or other individual needs. Following the program, meal and service the knights pitched in to help with the clean-up. May GOD watch over all this very special children and their families.
