Presentation of K of C Eagle Scout Certificate
Council: 2219 - WESTBROOK
Project Description:
At 5:45Pm, 8 June 2018, Members of the Council 2219 attended an Eagle Scout Ceremony at the First Baptist Church in Westbrook ME for a young man from St Anthony Parish and a member of the Westbrook Boy Scout Troop 70, whose project was to bring back to life an old unforgotten cemetery, which was located in a small patch of woods, within the City of Westbrook. After coordinating with the City Mayor and Public Works Director, this young man took care of clearing the vegetation and debris which had grown for decades and covered the headstones dating back to the 1800’s. With the help of volunteer city workers on weekends and permission to use city trucks removed over 200 yards of debris after several months of hard work and after obtaining special permission from the State of Maine, with the help of Senator Collins and Congress Women Pingree, to turn the fallen stones back into place. Permission had to be obtained since it is illegal to tamper with any headstones in the State of Maine.
Present at the event was Council 2219, Spiritual Advisor, who opened and closed the ceremony with prayers, State of Maine Representative, Westbrook City Manager, Westbrook Council 2219, Grand Knight, United States Marine Corp Representative, as well as Representative of the Boy Scouts Organization of the State of Maine and Local Scout Troops.
