Recognizaging A Very Special Brother And His Wife. 15791

Twenty Council members, our District Deputy, and a visitor participated in the presentation of a Service Award to one of our senior members and his wife at Holy Martyr’s Church in our Meeting Room on Monday November 5, 2018. Since the formation of our council in 2013 our leadership has been very grateful for all the help and dedicated time each of its members have spent in support of their council and their church. Last evening was another of those occasions when we recognized a brother knight and his wife for their many hours of support and involvement, not only with the Knights Council but with the church. During the last year or so Brother Don Hamalainens health has been on the decline because he has Parkinson’s Disease. Brother Don and Wife Carol have been a Knights Family since December 1, 1968. Brother Don is a Charter member of Council 15791; making his second Degree on October 8, 2013, and his Third Degree on October 15, 2013. Brother Don became a 4th degree shortly thereafter. Brother Don has been a very dedicated member of the Parish of the Holy Eucharist and in particular Sacred Heart Church. As an active church member, Don showed his love of music not only by teaching it, but also by being the Choir Director at Sacred Heart for a number of years; and I’m told was an exceptional Organist. Both Don and Carol have been active member of the Greater Freeport Community Choirs, many times providing practice in their basement playing the organ music he loves. In fact, I’m told that as an exceptional organist, Don was in high demand and he would play in different venues, particularly during the holiday Season. Don and Carol have been very active supporters of the Knights of Columbus and our many programs, and worked together in our Council’s fund raising activities as a
Family Team. This evening it was the pleasure GK Mike Crowley, and District Deputy Ray DiDonato to present Brother Don and Carol with a Recognization Plaque for Service to the Knights and the Parish. May God continue to watch over Brother Don and Carol for many more years to come.
