Restoration of Mother Mary Prayer Site

Project Description:

The prayer garden at St. Peter’s in East Millinocket was in dire need of restoration. The statue of the Virgin Mary had aged and the site surrounding the statue was in need of care. Knights of Council 680 volunteered their time and talents to renovate the site. One Knight, with experience in restoration, directed and guided other Knights in the proper techniques of patching, repairing, and repainting of the statue. Other Knights tending to the grounds and the structure surrounding the statue. Weeding, replanting, repairing, replacing weathered items, and repainting were the daily tasks until the entire prayer area was completed in time to hold a special Mass on Our Lady of the Rosary on October 8th. Parishioners gathered at the Prayer Garden to hear an outdoor Mass with a blessing of the newly renovated Garden by Father Dominic. Father Dominic also played an active part in the renovation project helping to weed, paint, and even drive a tractor for the first time in his life. It held a special meaning for him that the Knights took an active role in this project since he is also a 4th Degree Knight.
