St. Louis Ecumenical Food Pantry
St. Louis Ecumenical Food Pantry
Council: 2851 - LIMESTONE
Project Description:
The Food Pantry has approximately 75 – 80 clients that receive food every two weeks throughout the year. Food is picked up at Catholic Charities in Caribou the 1st Monday of each month and delivered, unloaded and shelved in preparation for the 1st Tuesday “Pantry Day”. The Pantry serves about half of the clients with a “Grab n’ Go” package of food whereas the other half make appointments for Wednesday and Thursday to come in and “shop”. Those with the “Grab n Go” receive approximately 100 lbs. of boxed and bagged food, canned goods, fresh fruit and vegetables along with frozen food. Each Sunday after the 11 AM Mass, two volunteers (1 being a Knight) travel to Hannaford in Caribou and pick up all of the food due to expire that day and unload it at the Pantry and place everything in the refrigerators and freezers. Telephone calls are made to the clients on Monday, and they come in on the 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, to shop for baked goods, fruits and vegetables. Four brother Knights and their wives along with 4 others make up the 12 volunteers working at the Pantry. (Since I cannot upload the photo, it will be emailed to the State Family Couple separately.)
