St. Thomas Council Knight of the Month for January 2019
St. Thomas Council Knight of the Month for January 2019
Council: 13861 - SANFORD
Project Description:
The St. Thomas Council has named Greg Semo as Knight of the Month for January 2018.
Over the past three years Greg and his wife Tina have organized and ran the council’s annual Christmas party for area needy children. Greg coordinates the fund raising, which involves selling raffle tickets for cash prizes. Approximately $2,000 is raised to cover the cost of Christmas gifts, pizza, soft drinks, cake, party supplies, paper plates, plastic utensils, napkins and grab bags for the children.
Greg will reserve the Parish Hall, line up a “Santa” and the DJ. A Parishioner with DJ equipment will provide the musical entertainment. Greg and Tina will buy the gifts and party supplies during Thanksgiving weekend. The cake and a portion of the pizzas are donated. This allows Greg and Tina to “stretch” the money to cover all expenses. Greg will organize a gift wrapping session and the decorating of the hall the night before. About a dozen volunteers will show up. Approximately 25 Knights and volunteers will help out the day of the party
Usually 35 to 50 children (accompanied by an adult) will attend. The children are treated to pizza and cake. Then they get to sit on Santa and receive their gift. A good time is had by all. But is due to the many hours Greg puts in to organize and coordinate this effort!
