Project Description:

Council 11257 started a program of collecting used eye glasses at Our Lady of Hope Parish’s St. Joseph and St. Pius churches in October 2012. In collaboration with “New Eyes” glasses for those in need from New Jersey, we collected old eye glasses and shipped them to New Eyes in New Jersey where they are tested and sorted by 250 adult and student volunteers for distribution by large charitable organizations and small medical missions in the Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, Asia, and Central Europe. To date we have shipped 905 pairs of glasses to New Eyes since October 2012. The baskets are located in the churches and parishioners deposit old glasses and they are periodically packaged and shipped to New Eyes by the knights of council 11257. To date New Eyes has helped more then 8 million people in 57 countries to see clearly. The Knights consider this a ministry to help those in need to see.
