Winter Preparation
Winter Preparation
Council: 1423 - No. WHITEFIELD
Project Description:
As the daylight decreases, and the weather starts to chill, it can only mean one thing: Winter is coming. This inevitable, and unavoidable fact of life, in Maine, means that certain precautions and preparations must be made.
One of these is the installation of a snow fence at the Transfiguration Hermitage, the home of three Benedictine Religious Hermits.
The fence is installed parallel to the first 200-feet of their 600-foot driveway. This year took a little longer than it has in the past. New tie-down ropes had to be cut, and new tent-pegs had to be attached, owing to fair wear-and-tear on the old ropes and pegs.
It is hard work, but well worth the effort, since it prevents a significant drifting of snow across the open field and driveway.
