Yard Sale
Yard Sale
Council: 680 - MILLINOCKET
Project Description:
This annual event is a major fund raiser for our Council and provides a traditional summer activity that is enjoyed by the local citizens of our community. This year, because of the pandemic, was especially challenging to conduct to comply with mandated wearing of masks and social distancing. It begins several month before as we advertise i the local newspaper and our Church bulletin for donations to our yard sale. members of the Council volunteer many hours taking phone calls, arranging pickup and delivering these items to the Association Hall. Over these months, the Council manages to fill a shed donated by the Association for our use. The day of the event, we began by setting up tables on the lawn at the Hall. it took many Knights starting at 6:30 a.m. to take all the yard sale items out of the shed and other storage sites and display them on the tables and surrounding areas. The sale ran from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Strict adherence to COVID mandates was accomplished by providing masks to those who did not have one, limit browser to 3 per table at all times, and provide a handwashing station with an alcohol based disinfectant available. At the end of the sale, members separated unsold items for donation to the St. Martin Thrift Store and those items that were considered unsellable. Several trips to the transfer site were made to discard these items. This fund raiser helps the Council fund its various charitable events and donations throughout the fraternal year.
