Yearly Red Mass Celebration. 15791

10/02/2018

Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH

Project Description:

My family and I once again this year participated in the Red Mass Celebration with many of my colleagues and parishioners at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on Sunday September 30, 2018 at the 10 AM Mass. The bishop told the assembly that this year’s Red Mass comes at a particularly challenging time for both our country and Church, and that the answer in both periods of difficulty may be the same. The Red Mass is a tradition that dates back to the early Middle Ages when Pope Innocent IV is said to have invited the Ecclesiastical Judicial Court in 1243 to gather to ask God’s blessing through the invocation of the Holy Spirit on the work that would be conducted in the court. We have attended this Mass for a number of years now, and each time we find ourselves very much up-lifted after this Mass. As in the past our Bishop’s have always given us strength and hope for the future. This year has been a good example of needing this strength and hope. This year we also took time after Mass to attend the reception after Mass and socialize.
