Council: 15791 - FALMOUTH

Project Description:

16 Council members who participated in the September Business Meeting in our Meeting Room at Holy Martyrs on Tuesday 6 September. Covered this evening was many items of old and new business. One such item was to discuss and decide what the council would be donating to this year’s Seminarian program. After discussion it was voted on to allocate $500.00 to Seminarian Erin Donlon in his 2nd Theology at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Maryland. Seminarian Erin Donlon, is originally from Good Shepherd Parish in Saco, Maine. He was born into a devoutly Catholic family of seven kids. He was homeschooled through high school and graduated in 2012. From a very young age, Erin was introduced to the catechism of the Church and attached a great importance to the Mass and the sacraments. Erin started as an altar server when he was eight and was extremely involved with serving at St. Joseph Church in Biddeford. In high school, Erin was involved in a local discernment group but never really put much serious thought to entering seminary. He ended up attending and graduating from Maine Maritime Academy. While he was there, he helped start a College Knights of Columbus Council and also a Catholic group, where previously there had not been one. Erin did not really start to discern the priesthood seriously again until he was overseas in Japan working for a military supply company. While he was there, Erin saw the desperate need for priests, not just here in Maine but also for the Armed Services. While he was in Japan, he suffered a shoulder injury that required him to come home. Oddly enough, because of that, he was able to attend an ordination Mass for the first time. After that, Erin really started receiving the sacraments more frequently and attending Mass as much as he could. Erin graduated from Maine Maritime in December of 2017 and have been accepted as co-sponsored seminarian for the Diocese of Portland and the Archdiocese for Military Services. Erin is currently attending Mount St. Mary’s Seminary this fall. Erin is extremely excited to be a part of this diocese and is looking forward to serving the great people of Maine. Our council membership is very pleased and happy to be able to help Erin with his up-coming year of studies, and to say Thank You for what he has achieved with the Knights of Columbus and the Military.
