Project Description:

This is an ongoing event in which six Knights from the Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council #13861 visit the York County Jail in Alfred, Maine on Tuesdays and Thursdays to conduct a prayer and faith-sharing session with the inmates.

A typical Saturday session begins with the Knights meeting at the jail at 5:30 pm. After obtaining security clearance, they will plan and review that evening’s session for about half an hour before proceeding to the community area and meet with the inmates.

The evening’s session will last from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. The session begins with an opening prayer and is followed by an introduction. The introduction consists of a mission statement outlining the purpose of the session and what will be covered. The attendees are then organized in groups of no more than five with one of the Knights facilitating each group for that evening’s discussion. Normally the group discussion will go from 6:20 to 7:20 pm. Exploring the Sunday Readings publication by Alice Camille is utilized to guide the group discussions. The publication includes a commentary for each of the upcoming Sunday scripture readings along with a faith-sharing question for each of the commentaries.

A rosary is recited by everyone following the group discussions. The evening concludes with a closing prayer.

There is another session at the jail on Tuesdays that is similar to Saturday’s; but is only an hour long.
