Youth Basketball Free-Throw Competition

Project Description:

The Knights of Columbus St. Thomas Council #13861 sponsored a Youth Basketball Free Throw competition at the St. Ignatius Gym on River Street in Sanford, Maine on Sunday, February 24, 2019. This event was open to boys and girls from ages 9 thru 14.

Registration started at 12 Noon that day. 14 youths registered for the competition. 11 Knights and one volunteer ran the competition. Work included registering contestants, scoring contestants, recovering basketballs, preparing certificates for each participant, preparing the winner’s certificates, and awarding medals for each winner. Knights and volunteers also served pizza and soda following the competition.
The competition began at 1:00 pm and ended at 2:00 pm. Each participant was allowed 3 practice shots, then 25 shots at the hoop that were scored.

Winners were as follows:
Girls 9 Yrs. Esmee Baron with a score of 8
Girls 10 Yrs. Zoey McCann with a score of 10
Girls 11 Yrs. Candice Daigle with a score of 12
Boys 9 yrs. William Morin with a score of 16
Boys 10 yrs. Aiden Hill with a score of 16
Boys 11 yrs. Brady James with a score of 7
Boys 12 yrs. Tanner McCann with a score of 16
Boys 14 yrs. Aiden Rench with a score of 12

Other contestants included:
Boys 9 yrs. Logan Gosling with a score of 10
Boys 10 yrs. Aiden Belanger with a score of 3
Boys 10 yrs. Lincoln Cacase with a score of 12
Boys 10 yrs. Alex Pettine with a score of 1
Boys 12 yrs. Landon Gosling with a score of 15
Boys 12 yrs. Connor Belanger with a score of 3

Pizza, soda and chips were served at the Parish Hall (below the gym) following the competition. A good time was had by all. Many of the participants expressed their appreciation to the Knights. The St. Thomas Council will sponsor another free throw competition next year.
